Trina Solar shares climb after 2Q profit doubles
Shares of Trina Solar Ltd. got a boost Tuesday after the Chinese manufacturer of solar wafers, cells and modules reported a sharp increase in net profit and turnover for the second quarter, surpassing Wall Street expectations.
THE CANDLE: Trina Solar modules shipped in the quarter more than it had planned - 223 megawatts, above expectations of 200-205 megawatts. Net income of the company has doubled to 38.7 million, or 52 cents per share, up from 18.6 million, or 35 cents per share a year earlier.
Revenue more than doubled to $ 370.8 million to $ 150 million.Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings of 49 cents per share on revenue of 338.3 million dollars.
Analysis: Wedbush Morgan analyst Christine Hersey said she is "positive" on the stock Trina given the structure of the firm with low costs and strong competitive position.
It is expected that Trina is better than its rivals of solar technology in 2010 and 2011, "that the position of the company cost leadership and customer diversification conditions allow it to navigate potential surplus in 2011 "Hersey wrote in a note to investors.
